This driver’s education course is suitable for both teenagers and adults, as while the licensing process is different for over 18s, the knowledge required to operate a vehicle safely is the same. So, what exactly does driver’s education entail? Our program will teach you about rules of the road, road signs and traffic laws – but that’s not all. We also cover vehicle controls, essential driving maneuvers, defensive driving techniques, drug and alcohol awareness, dealing with road rage, managing risk in different driving environments and every other major topic you will be assessed on during the initial 50-question Michigan SOS written test. All driver’s license applicants must pass this written permit test before they can start driving under the supervision of a licensed adult. It is an extensive exam, so to give yourself the best possible chance of passing first time, we recommend using our free drivers education course in conjunction with the SOS driving manual.
Teen license applicants must be at least 14 years and 9 months old before putting in their Level 1 license application. In addition to passing the 50-question general knowledge permit test, you will need to submit a certificate of completion, proving that you have successfully passed a state-licensed driver’s education course. The course you take must include at least 24 hours of classroom education and at least six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. You will need to book and pay for your official drivers ed program but thankfully, our course is free to use and can be accessed right away, from the comfort of your own home. Though 24 hours of classroom study sounds like a lot, there is a great deal of information to cover during that time. To make sure you get the most from the experience, use our teen driver’s education program and the Michigan SOS handbook to get a head start on your driving knowledge.
For adult temporary instruction permit applicants, the licensing process differs slightly. Once you are over 18, you are no longer required to take a state-mandated driver’s ed course. However, this does not mean you can skip out on driver’s education altogether. You will still need to learn about the Highway Transportation System, vehicle control theory, road rules and everything else addressed in the driving manual. Plus, adult applicants are still required to pass the same 50-question Michigan SOS permit test before they can start learning behind the wheel. While the Michigan driving handbook is an essential tool in studying for that exam, you will find it far easier to work through the material it contains with support from our free adult drivers ed course. The course breaks every major subject down into manageable sub-sections, explains everything using plain language, includes helpful images and can be revisited as often as you need. What more could you want from a study program?
